How did you discover Muay Thai?

Hing was from Thailand and was experience in Muay Thai. When we decided to get the kids to learn martial arts, Muay Thai was the first choice and besides I have always been at the practices with the kids.

Although I must say I was afraid to come to Kru DJ's classes initially as I was embarrassed to let him see how uncoordinated and out of shape I was. But DJ was always there for me to ask questions and give me advice. My 3 kids first started training under Kru DJ and in a way, it was through him that I got involved in Muay Thai. We had followed him since the first Kombat Arts school.

How often do you go?

I go at least 3 times a week. But I'd like to fit in 5 times, scheduled permitting.

Why did you start doing Muay Thai?

I have always wanted to join Kombat Arts after watching my kids doing their boxing and kicking, but I was intimidated by all the experienced students. I would watch my children in their classes and would come home and get the kids to show me the moves. Last summer, I decided to give it a try. It was hard for me at the beginning as it is imtimidating being surrounded by all the big buff men. Now, I feel more confident in my techniques and my muscles are more toned. I remembered doing squats with Kru Joey at the beginning and by 25 counts, my knees couldn't take it anymore. Now, I can do more than 200!

June is usually trying to be nondescript by hiding in the back of the Muay Thai classes. However it’s hard to stay hidden when she comes to every class, works extremely hard and has involved her whole family: 2 sons, 1 daughter and her husband in the Muay Thai program!

Dj Dallaire first coaxed June to come to our school to try the Muay Thai program in order to get in shape.  From there she has only gotten better.  “It’s a joy to see June’s progression as she gets more confident with herself, gets better with conditioning and technique and has worked her way up to the Green shirt ranking and the advanced classes; definitely a great example to younger students, her family and anybody who thinks wrongly that they are too old to take up martial arts
